Target Audience
This activity has been designed to meet the educational needs of MD/DO, NP/PA, and nurses involved in the care of patients with Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD).
Statement of Need/Program Overview
According to our needs assessments, PCPs have little training about how to diagnose and treat ADHD. PCPs (physicians, nurse practitioners and physician assistants) know little about the comparative effectiveness and cost-effectiveness of the diagnostic and treatment options for these disorders. Despite this lack of knowledge, PCPs are usually the first clinicians to be in contact with adults with ADHD (Mitchell, 2009, Montano, 2004).
Adler et al. (2009) found that 48% of PCPs did not feel competent to diagnose adult ADHD; 44% incorrectly believed that no structured diagnostic criteria are available for the disorder. 75% held the mistake belief that existing adult ADHD diagnostic tools were of poor or fair quality. Mean scores on 12 evidence-based questions were lower for primary care physicians than for psychiatrists as was awareness of the prevalence of ADHD in adults.

Method of Participation
There are no fees for participating in and receiving credit for this activity. During the period October 2023 through October 2024, participants must 1) read the learning objectives and faculty disclosures, 2) study the educational activity, 3) complete the evaluation form.
